5 Daily Things To Do For A Happier You & What Is Self Love?
I have read so many blogs, ones that talk about fashion, makeup, lifestyle, self-care, fitness,blogging, etc.
However, the one that really stood out to me was Self Love. I did research on it and found it inspiring. You are probably wondering, “Julissa, what does self-love mean anyway? doesn’t it mean to love yourself?”.
I would answer, yes it does mean to love yourself, but not in a narcissistic way. Self Love can mean really anything, but what I believe it means is “Love and do what makes you FEEL happy” If there is one thing i do not like, is to feel bored,ignored, and alone! I love adventure and fun! i like to refer to myself as a free spirit.
I emphasized the word feel because I strongly believe that if you do not feel happy about something you do or someone wants to make you do, then you should not do it simply because it does not make you feel happy.
Life is too short to do anything that does not make you feel happy.
For example: Lets say if a friend invites you to a party with a bunch of people you feel uncomfortable with and all you want to do is sit down with a bowl of popcorn and watch chick flicks with the people close to you, and that makes you the most happy, which one would you choose?
Self Love: A feeling and choice to be the happiest you can be.
The 5 Things I do daily to help me appreciate and love myself more is:
- Read Inspiring Books With A Cup Of Tea
Books that inspire me the most are biographies of celebrities or true story books, mostly because when I read them they talk about the struggles they went through. Things that got them to where they are now. And of course i can not forget tea! it is so soothing especially when it is a rainy day.
- Write In A Gratitude Journal
One of the things that my parents tell me that always hurt my feelings is “You are so ungrateful”I understand I say things to make them believe that i am ungrateful, but I’m not ungrateful. I am grateful for everything i have. I proved that to myself when i started a gratitude journal. Every morning i would write 5 things i am grateful for, and it had helped me appreciate myself more. I hope it will help you too.
Turn Off Phone
The one thing that always made me feel bad about myself was social media. Mostly because of the people I followed that looked like they had the “perfect” life. They connected with everyone and they all seemed to be loved, and that is what i wanted for myself. I wanted to connect and i wanted to have a life-like that. It got so bad that i stopped taking care of myself and convinced myself that there was no point trying to be like them.I was right. There is no point trying to be like them, i soon realized that i wanted to be myself. I realized that when i turned off my phone and went through life. Life is not through social media, it’s through your experiences.
- Listen To Music
Nothing makes me feel better about myself than music, especially when I listen to Beyonce, and Nicki Minaj! oh girl i start feeling myself and act like I’m the queen of sexiness! haha its funny believe me. Music can make you feel any type of way, and that is why i think it is important to find music that makes you go crazy happy!
When you are having a stressed day, your muscles tend to stiffen up when really, you need to relax. The best way to unwind is to stretch daily. Take it slow at first and feel the stiffness of your muscle. Do not pull to hard on your muscle, I know you want to touch your toes, but take it little by little, trust me on this one.After stretch you will feel flexible, so flexible that you believe you can do back flips. Haha i tried that once, didn’t end well.
Why Is Self Love Important?
As I said what self-love means to me “A feeling and choice to be the happiest you can be”.
I fully believe in that statement because when you feel happy, you start thinking positive, you bring out positive vibes that will attract others. Loving yourself and taking care of yourself might sound like a selfish thing, but really it is not. A lot of people have trouble with their self-esteem, and self-image. It can bring them down, and make them think negative thoughts.
We all go through it, maybe not all, but you understand what I mean. Everyone has some type of problem. I had problems with my self-esteem and i still have trouble with it, but little by little i am slowly learning how to love myself in a way that makes me feel beautiful. Beautiful inside and out.
There is a quote that says “We are all born so beautiful, the greatest tragedy is being convinced we are not” – Rupi Kaur
I resonate with this quote the most because if we all learn to love ourselves, then we can learn to love others. Social Media has given us the wrong perception of what beauty is, and we compare and compare until we convince ourselves that we are not beautiful, when really you are.
